Can’t believe half of January is already gone. Time to sign-up for some challenges for 2022.
The Library Love challenge is co-hosted by Angel’s Guilty Pleasures and Books of My Heart. As the name indicates, the challenge is to read books borrowed from library. As this year, I plan to read books that I already own, I am signing up for the lowest level: Dewey Decimal which means I’ll be reading 12 books for the challenge.

What a great challenge, Neeru! Libraries really deserve as much support as we can give them. And I like the idea of using the library when one can; it’s more sustainable (and less expensive!). I look forward to reading your thoughts on the books you choose.

Completely agree Margot that libraries deserve support. I have seen libraries disappearing before my eyes and it is very painful.

All the best with this one too; sadly not one I can join in since I no longer live close enough to a library to use one. When I did, I bought in a pile every week.

Nothin, Malilika, can beat the experience of wandering through the shelves and picking up dusty books. Libraries are dying in India and I am really broken-hearted.

I know, it’s really sad. I used the library a lot at university and as a child and found plenty of interesting reads. Now for me it’s a question of distance which made it tough even without the covid situation

True but also the reading culture is poor in most places; libraries seem mostly to be used by students as places to study.

Somehow, in India, reading of anything other than course books and (at times) non-fiction is not encouraged by parents. Nowadays even the teachers seem surprised when a child shows enthusiasm for reading novels. The government, of course, never did much, except in a few states, to encourage library culture. And now having written this, I so much want to visit a library but it is again closed because of this Corona…

Yes, it’s really sad that people don’t realise how much one can benefit from reading fiction, even if it’s just learning that one is after. I am lucky to have parents who read and always read, and as a result so have I.

Yes, I am also thankful to my parents who never stopped the three of us from reading fiction. I am esp grateful to my elder sister who inculcated the habit in us. Really itching to go to the library.😁
