Of Orient Are: A Poem by Neil Daswani

Who knows how many men there really were

bearing their gold, frankincense and myrrh

most Gospels say that there were three

tireless travellers who came to Christ’s Nativity

three lords from the East, who chased a star

the kingly trio of Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar

starting out from distant lands, they met upon the track

knights upon a holy quest, there was no turning back

the wondrous star kept leading them

till they arrived at last in Bethlehem

where they knelt and bowed at the manger’s door

to the babe clad in swaddling and little more

the Christmas star shone bright from up above

the greatest gift exchanged that day … was love!
